Cornershop Revisited (2013)
acrylic on canvas
30 x 30 x 3 cm

A second (and larger) take on one of Cardiff's corner-iest cornershops. On this occasion the background colour was a soft pale violet.

Definitely an improvement on version one, the strokes of crimson pink, cyan blue and orange have "sweet shop" ishness all over them!

Do you take John (2013)
acrylic on canvas
15 x 15 x 3 cm

A wedding present, picturing the bride's family church.

Another exercise in hookers green and prussian blue, on a cobalt blue background.

Cardiff Castle Green (2013)
acrylic on canvas
40 x 30 x 3 cm

Cardiff's lesser known castle, the Norman motte-and-bailey inside the fantasy battlements.

As well as my violet, purple and Prussian blue, I'm quite find of my Hookers green! Background colour is a warm cobalt blue.

At the Beech (2012)
acrylic on canvas
30 x 30 x 3 cm

About as far from a gritty urban streetscape as you can get, this impressive copper beech tree and bucolic village scene is in leafy South Oxfordshire.

Surprisingly for a 'copper' tree I could see a lot of violet and purple in the foliage but, then again, maybe I see violet in everything!

Closing Down Sale (2012)
acrylic on canvas
30 x 30 x 3 cm

A view of Meeks shoe shop in Albany Road, Cardiff, which was forced to close after 100 years of trading. The landlord wished to redevelop the site, apparently.

The deep violet base colour encouraged a moody, almost Hopper-esque effect.
